My Unspoken “I Love You”s

hugs-fingersI dearly love my family. I’m also a pretty huge fan of my friends.

I like them all a lot.

But I don’t tell them this very often. And when I do, it’s usually pretty briefly and doesn’t have a lot of thought put behind it. I don’t mean to forget to tell people how special they are to me or that I appreciate them. Life just gets busy or I feel awkward or…well, I just assume they already know, so why bother telling them again?

Because life is short, that’s why. And people are special and need to be reminded of that more often.

10 Things I Need to Say/D0 More Often

1. ” I really appreciate _____ about you.”

2. Ask how I can help out

3. ” I love you.”

4. Write thank-you notes

5. ” You’re special.”

6. Call just to check in

7. “I like spending time with you.”

8.Follow up on plans

9. “I’m so glad to know you.”

10. Listen and ask questions

I only wrote 10 things. There’s many more out there. You can probably list of a dozen or so right now– but that’s not the point.

Here’s the deal: Life is but a vapor. We don’t know how much time we have with those around us…as much as I want to believe we’ll all live to be (at least) 90 years old, no one can guarantee tomorrow.

That’s why I want to truly treasure the relationships I have today…why I want to take a few extra moments tell my friend I’m grateful to have her in my life. To look my brother in the eyes, and tell him he’s special. To give my parents a hug, and take a second to tell them I like them–not because they’ve given me rides or bought me things–but just because they’re themselves.

I want to take a few more moments, to say “I love you”, and really mean it. Because, frankly, I’m not promised any more opportunities to say, “I love you.”   Life is but a vapor, and I want to make the most of each opportunity.

“You can’t stay in your corner of the Forest waiting for others to come to you. You have to go to them sometimes.”~Winnie the Pooh

Blessings,

Sasha
